WHAT DO YOUR KEMPE WINDOWS MEAN
Part 5 – the south aisle, south west window
Theme: Service to God by Prophet, Priest and King
The left light shows the Prophet Samuel. He carries a book, a scroll of the Law and the horn of sacred anointing oil. The inscription reads, "Samuel fidelis propheta Domini"? … "Samuel the faithful prophet of the Lord."
The centre light shows King David, a joyous, regal figure, crowned and playing a harp, symbolising his writing of the Psalms. A Scroll reads "David Rex" – "David the King."
The light on the right shows the dignified figure of Ezra, wearing priestly robes and a Jewish turban-like mitre. He holds the scroll of the Law and has the inscription "Ezra sacerdos scriba legis dei" .. "Ezra the priest, writer of the Law of God."
